Who am I and why am I doing this?
I offer more than 20 years of experience in the library field, a personal interest in career
management, and a desire to help new and future librarians shape careers that they enjoy. I
began working in libraries in 1986 and earned my MLS from The University of North Texas in
1993. Since then I have worked in university, community college, medical, public, and school
libraries. As a new librarian I became interested in career development issues; my involvement in
organizations such as the ALA New Members Round Table only strengthened this interest. I've
written or edited 3 books dealing with library career management. In 2001 I created LIScareer to
allow librarians around the world to share career advice with new librarians and students. In Nov
2009 I launched this online career consulting service. I am earning an interdisciplinary master's
degree focusing on psychology and reading. Please note that I am not a licensed professional
counselor. For more about me, see my resume.
